For me, my stamina, energy and mental acuity are far better when I exercise. I have been trying a “kenyan running stride” for some time and I thought I would post a quick blog about it. Like many of us I have lower back issues once in a while, and from years of soccer, kicking a bag and running, my achilles can really tighten up. I have found this stride to be a little strange looking and feeling initially, but a great alternative. Essentially, you run in a flat shoe, like an indoor soccer shoe (I have lots of those), and hit the ground on the ball of your feet first, bent kneed, then cushion with a heel drop and go into the next stride pushing off the opposite ball of your foot. So instead of running in the traditional thick heeled running shoe and doing a heel-toe strike, you run in a flat shoe and do a toe-heel strike. It is surprisingly “lighter” and easier. Best part, because you become a natural shock absorber, your legs and back experience very little wear and tear and your core gets a tune-up at the same time. Try it, you might like it! Just do it…
